Tara J. Young

Tara J. Young is a prominent national leader in the labor movement, currently spearheading efforts as a primary organizer within a notable labor organization. Her role involves managing and training a cadre of junior organizers, with a focus on empowering workers to foster a movement that not only improves their livelihoods but also instigates positive transformations within their communities.

Tara’s journey into labor organizing includes significant roles such as the interim chief of staff for a Prince George’s County Council Member and as the Director of Special Projects for Ben Jealous during his Maryland Gubernatorial Campaign. In this capacity, she was instrumental in executing statewide community outreach, nurturing relationships with key religious and community figures, and orchestrating major campaign events and nearly a hundred community meetings.

Her commitment to social justice and community empowerment is informed by her extensive experience, which includes previous positions with notable political figures and comprehensive training across the ideological spectrum, including organizing training at Midwest Academy and a political fellowship with the Center for Progressive Leadership.

Tara’s educational background in public relations from Wayne State University, where she was an active board member of the Organization of Black Alumni and later served as the alumni president, further complements her wide-ranging expertise in advocacy and community engagement.
