Pioneering Health Equity in Our Community

Women Solve is a part of The Black Health Equity Coalition of Frederick (BHECF) which represents a collaborative effort aimed at confronting and dismantling health disparities within Frederick County’s Black community. Spearheaded by Women Solve in partnership with leading local organizations, this coalition is a beacon of hope and action towards achieving health equity.

Vision and Mission

The mission is to eliminate health disparities by empowering the Black community with the resources, knowledge, and support necessary to achieve optimal health. We envision a future where access to healthcare and health outcomes are equitable, regardless of race, ensuring a healthier Frederick County for all.

Why It Matters

Historical and systemic inequalities have led to significant health disparities affecting the Black community in Frederick County. From maternal health to mental health and access to primary care, these disparities compromise the wellbeing of our community. BHECF is committed to addressing these challenges head-on, through strategic initiatives and community-led solutions.

Our Initiatives

  • Maternal Health: Implementing support and education programs for expectant mothers to improve maternal health outcomes.
  • Youth Mental Health: Establishing mental health support systems and educational resources tailored for young Black residents.
  • Primary Care Accessibility: Enhancing access to quality primary care for Black residents to promote preventive health and reduce emergency care reliance.

Funding and Support

The coalition’s work is supported by significant grants from renowned institutions, including the CDC Foundation, Ausherman Family Foundation, and Delaplaine Foundation. These funds are pivotal in developing and sustaining our health initiatives.

Coalition Governance

In 2024, BHECF is focused on developing its governance structure, ensuring that our strategies and actions are community-driven and effectively address the health needs of Frederick County’s Black residents.
