Introduction
Welcome to the Seed to Roots Youth Arts Performance and Art Show page! Since its inception, Seed to Roots has blossomed into the most vibrant showcase of young talent within Frederick County, celebrating the rich tapestry of Black History and culture through the arts. Each year, students from K-12 grace the stage and gallery spaces, sharing their unique artistic expressions through dance, music, visual arts, and spoken word. This program not only highlights the incredible talents of our youth but also supports their continued growth through scholarships funded by ticket sales and community contributions.
About Seed to Roots
Seed to Roots Youth Arts Performance and Art Show is an annual celebration of creativity, culture, and community, highlighting the incredible talents of Frederick County’s young artists. Launched with the vision to honor Black History and culture through the arts in 2021, the program invites students from kindergarten through 12th grade to express themselves in diverse artistic mediums, including dance, music, visual arts, and spoken word.
This flagship program of Women Solve, in partnership with the Weinberg Center for the Arts, provides a prestigious platform for these young performers and artists to showcase their work to the community. Each performance and artwork is thoughtfully curated to reflect the depth and diversity of Black cultural heritage, striving to educate, inspire, and provoke thoughtful reflection.
While grants from respected organizations such as the Ausherman Family Foundation, Maryland Humanities, and the Maryland State Arts Council provide essential support for the operational aspects of the program, the heart of Seed to Roots’ mission lies in its ability to offer scholarships for artistic growth. Through ticket sales and generous community support, the program funds scholarships that enable participating students to receive lessons, attend summer camps and pursue further artistic development. This initiative not only nurtures their individual talents but also fosters a sense of achievement and confidence.
Beyond the stage and gallery, Seed to Roots embodies a commitment to breaking down barriers and building bridges. It challenges historic inequities in arts access and education, creating a space where every child, regardless of background, has the opportunity to shine. This program stands as a testament to the power of community support, the importance of cultural representation, and the transformative impact of the arts on young lives.
Join us in celebrating the creativity, courage, and spirit of Frederick County’s youth through Seed to Roots, a remarkable journey of artistic expression and cultural celebration.
