Frederick, Maryland — December 2023 — Women Solve, a dynamic nonprofit organization dedicated
to community empowerment and health education, is proud to announce that it has been awarded the
Frederick County Health Department’s Tobacco Use Prevention and Cessation Program Grant. This
grant will enable Women Solve to launch Y.E.T. – Your Every Tomorrow, Smoke and Vape Free!, an
innovative initiative aimed at educating and empowering the youth of Frederick County against the
dangers of tobacco and electronic cigarette (E-cigarette) use.
Tobacco and E-cigarette use among Frederick County youth has been identified as a critical public
health concern, and Women Solve is committed to addressing this issue head-on. Through this grant,
Women Solve will leverage its expertise and resources to create a comprehensive program tailored to
the unique needs of the community.
The grant will support a multifaceted approach, including the production of a student-led commercial
Public Service Announcement (PSA) and a series of engaging workshops and educational sessions.
These efforts will focus on providing accurate information about the risks associated with tobacco
and E-cigarette use, dispelling common misconceptions, and equipping youth with the knowledge and
tools needed to make informed decisions about their health.
“We are thrilled to have received this grant from the Frederick County Health Department’s Tobacco
Use Prevention and Cessation Program,” said Desiree Tucker, Executive Director of Women Solve.
“This funding will allow us to engage directly with the youth of Frederick County, addressing a critical
health issue and fostering a healthier, more informed community.”
Women Solve’s commitment to community well-being extends beyond program administration. Dr.
Kia Brown-Tisdale, the organization’s esteemed Internal Medicine Advisor, has actively contributed
her expertise to youth education initiatives. Dr. Brown-Tisdale’s knowledge and dedication make her a
valuable asset to this grant project.
As Women Solve embarks on this vital mission, it seeks to collaborate with local schools,
organizations, and community members to maximize the program’s impact. The organization
envisions a future where the youth of Frederick County are empowered to make healthy choices and
live tobacco-free lives.
