Women Solve Awarded Grant to Promote Healthy Weight Management in Frederick County
Frederick, MD, October 24, 2024 – Women Solve has been awarded a $10,000 mini-grant from the Frederick County Health Department’s Equity Office to support its “Beyond Diet and Exercise” initiative. This program addresses the concerning rates of adult obesity in Frederick County, where 33.2% of adults are classified as obese, slightly below the national average of 37.4% (U.S. News & World Report, 2023).
The grant supports Women Solve in delivering health education and practical tools, empowering individuals and families to make informed decisions about their well-being. The “Beyond Diet and Exercise” initiative addresses more than physical activity and nutrition by incorporating a holistic approach that includes mental well-being, stress management, and lifestyle adjustments. According to the Frederick County Health Department’s FY2024 Community Health Assessment, improving access to healthy lifestyle education is a critical need in the community (Frederick County Health Department, 2024).
“We are grateful for the support from the Frederick County Health Department,” said Desirée Tucker, Executive Director of Women Solve. “This funding allows us to connect more closely with the community, providing resources and guidance that help individuals make lasting improvements to their health. We are committed to making healthy living accessible and sustainable for everyone in Frederick County.”
With the support of this grant, Women Solve will offer workshops, public events, and one-on-one consultations. These activities focus on helping participants develop sustainable habits that support overall wellness. Women Solve will also collaborate closely with the Frederick County Health Department, delivering detailed reports on the program’s outcomes to uphold transparency and accountability.
