Women Solve Secures Community Grant to Expand Seed to Roots Youth Arts Program

Frederick, MD, July 18, 2024 – Women Solve has been awarded a $25,000 Community Grant from Frederick County to support the growth and expansion of the Seed to Roots Youth Arts Program. This initiative provides students in grades K-12 with opportunities to explore and display their artistic talents, fostering creativity and community engagement throughout Frederick County.

Since its start, Seed to Roots has evolved into a dynamic program, involving over 100 students each year. It serves as a platform for young people to share their stories through various art forms, including dance, music, theater, and visual arts. In addition to its annual performance, the program offers a series of engaging workshops and a special educational trip for students, designed to deepen their understanding of the arts and provide hands-on learning experiences. With the support of this Community Grant, Seed to Roots will reach even more students, providing them with valuable opportunities that extend beyond artistic performance. Participants develop skills in public speaking, teamwork, and self-discipline.

Women Solve’s mission is “to harness the collective power and diverse talents of women to tackle pressing challenges in our communities.” A key focus of the organization is to promote Black excellence by encouraging youth to embrace their heritage and use their creativity as a means of self-expression and community pride. Seed to Roots creates a welcoming space for young Black artists to highlight their talents, celebrating the cultural contributions they bring to Frederick County.

Desirée Tucker, Executive Director of Women Solve, shared, “We are grateful for Frederick County’s support in helping us uplift young voices while honoring Black culture and creativity. This grant strengthens our ability to offer enriching workshops, a memorable trip, and experiences that build the skills and confidence of our participants.”

While the grant provides essential support, more donations and sponsorships are still needed to make the program accessible to students. Community members interested in contributing can donate at womensolve.org/donate. Ongoing community support is vital in helping Seed to Roots continue to grow, helping children and fostering artistic expression for the future.
